St George jacobite Syrian church kunnakurudy is situated in the village of airapuramkunnathnadu thaluk, ernakulam district it is two kilometers away from the MC road and in almost at mid point between perumbavoor and muvattupuzha it has been well known since its consecration as source of endless blessings .As a result of the then dispute in the malankara church a good number of the parishners of the kunnakurudy jacobite Syrian church who stood behind the patriarch of Antioch decided to separate themselves from their mother church they built a chapel in the name of ST George and celebrated the first holly mass on December 22,1975. The the patriarch of Antioch moran mor zakk ivas 1st laid the foundation stone of the new church on 04.03.1982 during his apostolic visit in India.
The consecration of the new church was progressed and it was completed and the consecration of the church was made on 20th novenber 1986 ,In connection with the festival ceremony of yacob burdhana the consecration ceremony was was held under the leadership of his beatitude aabon mar baselious paulose 2nd catholicos of the east and malankara metropolitian in the presence of Thomas mor dionesious (Present catholicos),kadavil Dr paulose mar athnasious and Dr Abraham mar saverious.the silver jubilee of the church was celebrated in the year 2000 . The construction of “ kuduz kudizin “was completed and the holly moron consecration was done in the connection with the festival ceremony of Yacob burdhone on the 20th and 21st November 2003 under the leadership of this beatitude Thomas mor dionesious , the catholicose of the east and malankara metropolitan trustee and seven other metropolitans of the church.
Rev. Fr .PJ mathai pulinattu was giving leadership and keep the believers in true faith. He passed away on 6th May 1975 then the catholicate faction started to express their pride and eagerness in changing the age old church traditions. The true believers found it difficult to get along with this type of action. However patriarch function was not interested in fights legally and physically.
An urgent meeting was convened at the house of the Late Sri .EK. Paulose pulinattu and the meeting was presided over by the then vicar of the church.
Rev.Fr.Joseph Kannothmolel .it became clear that there were 370 Families of the mother church in the patriarch faction they expressed their eagerness to build a new church worship God the Almighty in a peaceful atmosphere they decided to buy a plot of one acre from Sri Varkey Varghese pulinattu and build a chapel there. Since was have come out from the mother church off – handedly we have to suffer a lot.
The foundation stone of the chapel laid on 3rd December 1975 and completed the construction on 22nd December 1975 with a short period of 18 days. It was consecrated by his beatitude mor saelious paulose 2nd in the presence of Thomas mor dionesious,then bishop of angamali diocese (the present catolicos of the malankara jacobite church).
